印前作業是指印刷工藝的前期工作,包括排版、拼版、打印傳輸等工作。數字印刷在印前對圖像文字進行處理的方式和傳統印刷的印前基本相同,不同的是數字印刷形成的文件不必輸出到膠片或印版上,而是直接驅動數字印刷設備的印刷機構成像印刷。

印前作業是指印刷工藝的前期工作,包括排版、拼版、打印傳輸等工作。數字印刷在印前對圖像文字進行處理的方式和傳統印刷的印前基本相同,不同的是數字印刷形成的文件不必輸出到膠片或印版上,而是直接驅動數字印刷設備的印刷機構成像印刷。當然,數字印刷在印前的操作也有其特殊性,例如可變數據印刷,這是需要專門的組版軟件確定格式,根據數據庫中不同的數據項調用不同的文字和圖片,組合成版面,每個數據項的版面都可以有不同的地方。

數字印刷的印前的另一個特點是數字印刷形成的文件一般不需要拼大版,因為數字印刷的設備的幅面一般不大,很多設備就只有A4幅面的寬度。但是即使這樣,也有類似於拼大版的程序,也就是先打印哪一頁,後打印哪一頁,以及正反面相對的頁面,以便在打印完之後就可以立即進行裝訂加工。
