蘇美爾人用一種三角形的小鑿子在黏士板上鑿上文字,筆畫開頭粗大,尾部細小,很像蝌蚪的形狀。

西方古代的書籍印刷發展

公元前2世紀,小亞細亞的帕加馬研發出可以兩面書寫的新材料羊皮紙,其比紙莎草紙要薄而且結實得多,能夠折疊,採取一種冊籍的形式。

公元3世紀和公元4世紀時,冊籍形式的書得到普及,冊籍翻閱起來比捲軸容易,可以很好地進行查閱、收藏和攜帶。
