聚醋酸乙烯酯由於顏色為乳白色,俗稱白膠或乳膠。白膠具有微酸性,能溶於水,對人體無害。白膠乾燥後膠層為無色透明不會影響書本的外觀質量,乾燥後韌性好,裁切不會損傷刀片。白膠由於能溶於水,因此易於調整黏度。

白膠的使用性能如下

①白膠膠黏劑適應多孔材料的黏結,如紙張織物、皮革等。與504樹脂混合可黏結PVC塗布花紋紙等。

②白膠在裝訂過程中,可用於黏結單頁、雙頁、漿背、包封面等。但不要用於精裝書殼黏結,因為白膠含水量大,乾燥速度慢易造成書殼封捲翹。


③白膠在冬季使用時要註意防寒,不可在0℃以下使用;夏季不可過熱,36℃以上會起化學變化。

④調制時要水浴加熱,用套鍋或蒸的方法。
