​一個完整的印刷過程是由印前、印刷和印後這三部分構成的。多種多樣的印後設備既可以保證數字印刷生產的整體效率、縮短加工時間,又可以提高客戶的滿意度。投資數字印刷企業的一開始並沒有太把印後設備當回事兒,最初引進數字印刷設備時並沒有考慮配套相應的印後設備。

因此與數字印刷配套的印後設備一直沒有得到很好的開發。數字印刷企業所用的印後設備一般採用辦公用的印後設備,或是採用企業里的傳統印後設備。現在這個情況已經得到改善,近年來有不少印後設備供應商開發了專門用於數字印刷的印後設備,這些印後設備的面市給數字印刷企業帶來更多的選擇。印刷企業特別是運行一段時間的數字印刷企業,對投資印後設備也有足夠高的熱情,這足以說明有相當多的印刷企業意識到印後加工的重要性。
