書籍信息編輯的秩序感首先表現在書籍多層次的物性結構上,這是書籍信息時空展示的承載主體。現在我們熟悉的紙質書,就是利用紙張對開頁的重復造成連續的空間,產生時間和空間的交錯。


一本書,讀者在閱讀正文內容之前,就會經過書套、封面、環襯、扉頁、目錄、序言、目錄等結構要素的層層鋪墊,每個結構上承載的信息,都會為讀者對正文的感受烘托氣氛。進行書籍設計時,對書籍結構的這種多層次性的整體設計是時空元素的基礎。

設計時通常要由表及里層層深入依次把封面、環襯、扉頁、目錄、正文及封底展現給讀者,讀者在頁頁翻閱的過程中也就實現了空間的轉換和時間的延續。

書籍信息編輯的相繼性是其秩序感的另一個重要部分。17世紀英國經驗主義美學家霍布斯在《巨鯨》中認為:人類在審美活動中“凡是在感覺中彼此直接銜接的運動在感覺後也還是聯在一起的”。這就是“相繼的知覺作用”。
