版面設計中行、欄、行距、字距的合理設定,是版面設計的重點,直接影響到版面和閱讀的效果。

在行、欄、行距、字距的設定上,方便、流暢、舒適的閱讀效果是首要的,版面的美觀只有在此基礎上才能產生它真正的價值。

設定行、欄、行距、字距時,首先要考慮設計是否符合人的視覺生理特性,即閱讀的距離所產生的視域。

關於書籍版面設計的距離

閱讀距離產生的視域是有限度的正常人最佳寬度(即行寬)約在10釐米左右,可容納正常字距的5號漢字27個左右,4號漢字20個左右。

如果行寬超過這一限度,讀者必須頻繁轉動頭部,換行時還容易錯行。如果行寬過窄,讀者則不得不迅速移動視線換行,造成眼睛疲勞。

合理的行寬是根據書籍開本大小、版心大小、書稿內容而定的。一般32開本14×20.3釐米,版心為10×15.5~16釐米,正文以文字為主,常用通欄文字。

16開本18.5×26釐米,版心為15×21釐米,如正文用通欄行寬過寬,宜選用分欄行距與字距,即行與行、字與字之間的空白距離,它們的合理與否對整體版面而言同樣非常重要。

適度的行距與字距,能使閱讀方便流暢,版面清晰美觀。如果行距過密,行與行之間容易混淆。字距過疏,容易影響連貫性。
