思維的流暢性和敏捷性通常是指思維在一定時間內向外“發射”出來的數量和對外界刺激物做出反應的速度。我們說某人的思維流暢、敏捷,則是指他對所遇到的問題在短時間內就能有多種解決的方法,在最短的時間里對某事物的用途狀態等做出準確的判斷,提出最多的處理方法。

根據科研人員用現代化儀器測定,人的思維神經脈沖沿著神經纖維運行,其速度大約為250kmh。不同的人其思維的流暢性和敏捷性是有區別的。例如,人們面對同樣一個問題,有的人想不出解決的辦法,有的人則能做出多種判斷並迅速想出相應的處理方法。
