冷色與暖色是依據心理錯覺對色彩的物理性進行分類的,對於顏色的物質性印象,大致由冷暖兩個色系產生。波長長的紅光和橙、黃色光,本身有暖和感,以此光照射到任何色都會有暖和感。相反,波長短的紫色光、藍色光、綠色光,有寒冷的感覺。夏日,我們關掉室內的白熾燈光,打開日光燈,就會有一種變涼爽的感覺。

冷色與暖色是依據心理錯覺對色彩的物理性進行分類的,對於顏色的物質性印象,大致由冷暖兩個色系產生。

比方說,暖色偏重,冷色偏輕;暖色有密度大的感覺,冷色有稀薄的感覺:兩者相比較,冷色的透明感更強,暖色則透明感較弱;冷色顯得濕潤,暖色顯得乾燥;冷色有退遠的感覺,暖色則有追近感。

這些感覺都是偏向於對物理方面的印象,但卻不是物理的真實性狀,而是受我們的心理作用而產生的主觀印象,它屬於一種心理錯覺。

紅、橙、黃色常常使人聯想到旭日東升和燃燒的火焰,因此有溫暖的感覺;藍青色常常使人聯想到大海、睛空、陰影,因此有寒冷的感覺;凡是帶紅、橙、黃的色調都帶暖感;凡是帶藍、青的色調都帶冷感。色彩的冷暖與明度、純度也有關。

高明度的色一般有冷感,低明度的色一般有暖感。高純度的色一般有暖感,低純度的色一般有冷感。

無彩色系中白色有冷感,黑色有暖感,灰色屬中。
