中國的書籍形式,是從簡策開始的。簡策始於商代,一直延續到後漢(公元2世紀),沿用時間很長。用竹做的書,古人稱作“竹簡”,大竹竿截斷劈成細竹簽,在竹簽上寫字,這根竹簽叫作“簡”,把許多簡編連起來叫作“策”。

中國的書籍形式,是從簡策開始的。簡策始於商代,一直延續到後漢(公元2世紀),沿用時間很長。用竹做的書,古人稱作“竹簡”,大竹竿截斷劈成細竹簽,在竹簽上寫字,這根竹簽叫作“簡”,把許多簡編連起來叫作“策”。

用木做的,古人稱為“版牘”,把樹木鋸成段,剖成薄板,刮平寫上字就為“牘”,

關於書籍製作之簡策

新竹容易腐朽或受到蟲害,必須先在火上烘乾,去掉水分。簡的長度,一般有三尺、尺半和尺三種。

編簡成冊的方法是用繩將簡依次編連,上下各一道,再用繩子的一端,將簡扎成一束,就成為一冊書。

漢代時的簡,書寫已經十分規範,先有兩根空白的簡,稱為贅簡,目的是保護裡面的簡,相當於現在的護頁,然後是篇名、作者、正文。但是,由於簡策有分量重、占地方、使用不便等很多缺點,就逐漸被一種更輕便的帛所替代。
