由於畫冊印刷廠印刷機目前常採用快乾油墨和熱固油墨。快乾油墨不需加熱即可乾燥,熱固油墨則不同,必須加熱才能乾燥。所以捲筒紙膠印機還需要設置印後的紙帶迅速乾燥裝置。

烘乾裝置的基本原理是:經烘乾裝置加熱,使紙帶上油墨中易揮發的溶劑揮發,同時又使油墨內的樹脂軟化,固態的顏料顆粒滲入半流動狀態的樹脂中,最後再經過冷卻固化,顏料顆粒固留在紙帶錶面,油墨也乾燥了紙帶的烘乾方式很多,有熱風烘乾裝置、煤氣火焰烘乾裝置煤氣火
焰和熱風混合式烘乾裝置、電熱烘乾裝置、蒸氣加熱滾筒烘乾裝置和用紫外線油墨的紫外線烘乾裝置及微波烘乾裝置等,實際應用較多的是前三種。
